Gifted and Talented Exam

Latest News Regarding the NEW G&T Application Process

Since 2021, the new G&T application process no longer includes a test, and instead it involves families and early childhood educators identifying students for accelerated learning.

The Gifted & Talented (G&T) application is open the same time as the regular kindergarten application on Myschools.

How to Participate

  • For current pre-K students already in a DOE-funded school program:

    1. All children can apply for G&T online via MySchools.nyc or through a Family Welcome Center along with other regular kindergarten programs when kindergarten applications open in Winter.

    2. Next, current pre-K teachers will evaluate and nominate children for G&T admissions.

    3. Nominated children will be placed in a lottery.

    4. If children are accepted in G&T programs, offer letters will be sent out to families in mid-Spring.

  • For current pre-K students at private or parochial school programs, or for children who are not yet in school:

    1. Families can apply to G&T by submitting a G&T application online with MySchools.nyc or through a Family Welcome Center.

    2. After the application closes, DOE's Division of Early Childhood Education will contact applicants to set up interviews.

    3. Based on these interviews, early childhood education experts will nominate eligible applicants for G&T admission.

    4. Nominated children will be placed in a lottery.

    5. If children are accepted in G&T programs, offer letters will be sent out to families in mid-Spring.

After You Apply

  • After all applications are submitted and nominations submitted or interviews conducted, all eligible applicants are considered for offers.

  • Offers are determined based on families' application choices, seat availability, and admissions priorities. All G&T programs give an admissions priority to siblings of current students.

  • All applicants will receive an offer letter in mid-Spring.
